Pool Pics

Today we traveled to Kırıkkale, a smaller city about 70 kilometers outside of Ankara. Our friends have a business and house there and they recently discovered an outdoor public pool. This is a rare find as all outdoor pools in Ankara (that we know of) require a yearly membership fee. We had a great time! Are you curious about swimming attire in Turkey?? Well, I'd say 95% of the women there had on bikinis, a few had on one-piece suits, and then 3 (yes, I counted) had on "burqinis." A burqini (pictured below) is what women wear to swim in if they normally wear burqas in public. This lady was having a grand old time going down the water slide. :)

A couple of other interesting observations:
1. The pool snack bar had very few things available, but OF COURSE they served hot tea.

2. There was a second, but private pool at this facility. The private pool had a very particular admission schedule:
Mon. - Thurs. = Only single people
Fri. = Only women
Sat. and Sun. = Only families

Interestingly enough - we have a couple women, young ladies in our neighborhood here in Houston that wear burqinis ...
