All Things New

I haven't taken many pictures yet.  I will tomorrow...I promise.  But, I thought I'd share a few of my observations about Ankara, Turkey thus far.  Now, please keep in mind these are only my observations and we've only been here 4 days. Others may have completely different observations or opinions.

1. Food places will deliver anything.  If you order a meal a guy on a little scooter will come and deliver it to your door (just like when I lived in Korea)!!  Even MCDONALD'S will deliver to your door.  We've not ordered in yet as we're trying to get OUT and interact with people. 

2. I've been told by many people that Turks don't have dogs as pets.  Yet, there seem to be a handful of "wild dogs" running around our neighborhood (and I'm told to stay away because they bite).  If Turks don't have dogs as pets then how do these big "wild dogs" end up in a major city made of concrete and small apartments?

3.  There are no screens on windows here.  People open up their windows to cool their apartments, and many of them are normal height windows.  That would never fly in the U.S. due to child safety.  Plus it's hard to control the flies.  We're told that they don't sell fly swatters here.  Can someone send me one??

4.  Finally, my favorite discovery of the week.  There is a lady that cleans the floors and stairwells in the apartment common areas each day (also much like Korea) and each night you stick your trash right outside the door and she deals with it (and if it's not out there she'll knock and ask for it).  No hauling it down the stairs.  No "week's worth" of garbage to take out.  It's done for you.  Awesome!  Now we have to find Zach a new household job :)
